I loved this story. What you did for this boy was so sweet! Mark is right, he will carry the memory of what you did for him for the rest of his life. And it is a positive one, that’s the important thing. My father died of addiction when I was 14 and I never came to grips with that for many years later. My young years were full of self destructive behavior because of the lack of positive people around me. It sounds like this boy has a good support system around him. It’s amazing how resilient kids can be when tragity strikes. It’s awesome when they have someone like you to help out. Well done Scott

Scott,

What you did and don’t realize is that you made him big man on campus…he’s now able to brag to his friends that he hung out backstage at a Sugarland concert. Not alot of kids get to do that. That’s the stuff kids remember and you were part of making those memories….and kids never forget.

Thank you for this blog post! I was just talking with a high school friend tonight who has a sister who is heavy into drug addiction and anytime anyone tries to help her, or her wonderful children she just gets more into the drugs. Rehab isn’t an option because she doesn’t want help and it cost about $30,000 up front to put her into a program. Addiction is sad, but seeing people go through it does make you realize how wonderful your family is and to have compassion for those that deal with it. I am sure that meeting you last night Evan will never forget it, and it will be a positive thing that happened in his life. Thanks again for this post and for taking us on the road. Please let your wife and boys know we are thankful for her lending you to us for the summer and fall.

It’s so sad when you hear of something like that, especially when there’s a little kid involved. No one should have to go through that, especially that young. That was so nice of you to give them tickets. I’m sure you made that little boy smile, even in such a tough time. Can’t wait to see you guys soon…June 19th in Bossier City can’t come soon enough! Ain’t no party like a Sugarland Party cuz a Sugarland Party don’t stop!
